It's funny I ask this question because I never really believed in personal trainers before I became one. Growing up, my family, who you should know is incredibly traditional, would look at you sideways if you even thought about getting a gym membership. They and I at the time, didn't understand how important it was for the body to move EVERYDAY!
Once I started to study exercise physiology and how the human body moves and survives I realized how incredibly crucial exercise really is. That's when I decided to run! Ok... so most people think "oh run huh? Isn't that bad for your knees?" To this day I run at least 2-5 miles a day. Yes sometimes it's excessive and yes I do feel tired, but that's why personal training is so important! I have learned through the years on how to correctly run, monitor my target HR, weight lifting progression, diet.... Wanna know the real secret? MIX IT UP! Once I paired clean eating with my running, I noticed a change in my energy level and how my muscles recovered. Let me tell you though once I added my personal training specialty of HIIT (high intensity interval training) I SAW the change and felt STRONG! You really need to feed your body with the good stuff, make it work the way it should. Challenge your body to be strong!
Okay so... Why do you need a personal trainer? Here we go. Below are the top 5 reasons why you should take advantage of a personal trainers knowledge and skills.
#1: Motivator for Your Life!
Personal Trainers, I kid you not can be one of your best friends. They are here for no one else but you in every session! They care about your well-being. One of the main reasons I have chose Personal Training as a career path is to help people become the best versions of themselves~ honestly I truly believe everyone needs their very own specialized exercise and diet program. Cause let's face it, no two people are alike! Personal Trainers cater to your personal goals and can help you beyond there! The motivation and drive in every single one of your sessions will give you the boost you need to not only start a fitness journey, but also make a life habit!
No one can say they have woken up every morning ready to workout.... okay maybe a few, but overall it's hard to do. When you make a doctors appointment do you go? I hope so. Why, why, why don't we treat a personal training session in the same category as doctors? Like I've said many times before, exercise is medicine. The benefits of exercise outweigh any excuse you have in your book. SO hire a personal trainer! An appointment you agreed to attend is waiting for you. Make this motivate you to get up in the morning. Everyone knows you should NOT let your personal trainer down! ;)
This one is my favorite. We are experts! Having gone through extensive college classes a million physiology books, conferences and workshops, plus the CEUs we have to maintain, we aim to improve and grow for our clients!
Hiring a personal trainer can eliminate the need for trial-and-error. It can save you the heartache of spending 8 weeks following a random workout plan from Pinterest only to find out that it wasn’t the right fit for you and your goals.
If you’re serious about using the most effective and efficient methods to get you to your fitness goals, then it’s important to put your trust in a professional that can execute a plan specifically developed with your unique needs in mind.
I also feel that the more specific your needs are the better it will be to help. It also means there are qualifications you should seek from your personal trainer! With my diverse experiences working with individuals who have cancer, diabetes, Parkinson, obesity and children I have learned how important education is. I am always looking for the next specialization to better myself as a well-rounded, holistic trainer!
#4 Keeping it simple!
Weight, reps, sets, time, recovery.... how the hell are you supposed to come up with an effective workout, remember what you do, how to progress and learn all of moves on your own? Simple! Personal Trainers do it all! They make is specific to your goals, your strength, stamina and track your progress as you go. Exercise made easy makes it less stressful for you!
#5 Safety is KEY
Having guidance from an experienced coach can give you the peace of mind that you can try new and exciting exercises and still be safe about it.
With anything active, there’s bound to room for error (which ultimately translates into injury). By having someone there to teach you proper technique, you can feel better knowing you weren't just trying to fling a weighted barbell over my head- no, you're performing the moves with specific instruction so not to hurt yourself.
Working with a trainer allows you to become confident with how to perform exercises. And that confidence in knowing that you’re performing each exercise to the best of your ability- it can help make your fitness routine a habit that stays with you for the long haul.
